We depend upon thousands of volunteers every year to Keep Genesee County Beautiful. Many small actions – by individuals, community and corporate leaders – multiply to create a greater whole with more vibrant communities nurtured by an engaged citizenry. The end result is a cleaner, safer and more livable community.
The largest volunteer efforts revolve around clean up activities. We encourage you to identify a specific area that needs assistance and find a group of concerned residents to work with you. For example, this could be neighbors, co-workers, extended family, church groups, or Boy and Girl Scout organizations. Keep Genesee County Beautiful provides support through the distribution of garbage bags, yard waste bags, gloves and litter grabbers to make your event a success. We ask that you complete a form to supply us with specific statistics from your clean up that we use in reports to our granting agencies.
There are also opportunities for volunteers to work at organized events. Assistance is needed at the Household Hazardous Waste Collections in May and October, planting and/or maintenance at places like Riverbank Park or other cleanup and beautification projects. You can also work with Graffiti Hurts Flint, sponsored by the Citizens Nuisance Task Force. This volunteer group paints over graffiti and removes illegal signs from public spaces.
